Terms of Use

These are the rules for using Lengthywaves. They are short because the service is small: a party game, free to play, with an optional account for keeping the prompts you write and an optional paid plan that raises how many of them an account can hold.
1. Who may use it
You must be 13 or older. If you are under 18, you may use Lengthywaves only with a parent or guardian's permission. The service is offered to users in the United States; we make no claim that it is appropriate or available anywhere else, and if you use it from elsewhere you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for your local law.
2. Your account
You do not need an account to play. If you make one, keep it to yourself — anything done through it is treated as done by you. Tell us at contact@lengthywaves.com if you think someone else has got into it. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app; what happens to your data when you do is set out in the Privacy Policy.
3. The prompts you write
You keep ownership of the prompts and decks you write. We claim nothing beyond what running the service requires.
By publishing a deck — which is a deliberate act, never a default — you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it to other users, for as long as it is published, so that it can appear on the community shelf and be played. Unshare it and that licence ends for new readers; copies already downloaded to somebody's device for offline play are not something we can reach in.
Private decks are not covered by this at all. We store them so you can use them and do nothing else with them.
4. What you may not publish
A published deck is read by strangers, often out loud, often to a room with a range of ages in it. Do not publish anything that:
- is unlawful, or encourages something unlawful;
- harasses, threatens, or targets a real person, named or obvious;
- attacks people for their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation;
- is sexual content involving minors, in any form, at all;
- is somebody else's copyrighted text, including prompt text copied from a published board game or another app;
- contains personal information about anybody;
- is spam, advertising, or a link farm.
You are also responsible for not abusing the service itself: no automated scraping, no attempts to break authentication or reach other people's private decks, no flooding the play counts or the room system, and nothing that degrades the service for other people.
5. Decks other people publish
Community decks are not reviewed before they appear. There are no moderators standing between somebody writing a prompt and you reading it. We do not endorse those decks, we have not checked them, and we are not responsible for what is in them — that warning is on the community shelf itself as well as here, because it is the single most important thing to know about that part of the app.
If a deck breaks section 4, report it to contact@lengthywaves.com with the deck's title and its author's display name. We remove decks by hand. We will act on reports we agree with, and we make no promise about how fast — we are not obliged to monitor, review or remove anything, and a decision either way is not a precedent.
If you believe a deck infringes your copyright, tell us at the same address: identify the work, the deck, and confirm you are the owner or authorised to act for them, with contact details we can reply to.
6. Removal and suspension
We may remove a deck, or suspend or close an account, if it breaks these terms. Where it is practical and not counterproductive, we will say why. Removing a published deck does not delete your copy of it: hiding a deck takes it off the shelf and off its link, and you keep the ability to open, edit and unshare it.
7. The service is provided as it is
Lengthywaves is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, or that content stored on it will not be lost.
In plainer words: things can break. Do not keep anything here that you would be upset to lose. There is no service level promise, we may change or discontinue any part of it, and a game in progress can end because a server restarted. Paying for a plan raises how much you may store; it does not buy a warranty, an uptime guarantee, or a promise that the service will exist forever. If we do discontinue it, section 8 says what happens to money you have already paid.
8. Paid plans
Playing Lengthywaves is free, and it stays free: every game mode, the prompts bundled with the app, the decks other people publish, and online rooms all work without paying. A paid plan does one thing — it raises how many decks one account may hold. Nothing you can buy changes how a game plays, and nothing you can buy affects the other people in a room with you.
Price, and what you are charged. The price, the billing interval and the currency are shown on the purchase screen before you confirm, and that screen is the agreement — not this page, which deliberately names no figure so it cannot go stale. Any taxes are shown there too, where they apply.
Automatic renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price and interval shown when you bought it, and it keeps renewing until you cancel. You may cancel at any time, from the billing screen inside your account or by writing to contact@lengthywaves.com. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not end the period you have already paid for, and you keep the paid capacity until that period runs out.
Refunds. If you cancel within 14 days of your first payment, write to contact@lengthywaves.com and we will refund that payment in full. After that, payments already made are not refundable except where the law requires it, or where we have plainly failed to deliver what you paid for — which we would rather fix than argue about, so write to us either way. Renewals are refundable on the same 14-day footing if you tell us you meant to cancel and had not used the extra capacity.
Price changes. We may change the price of a plan. If we do, we will tell the people it affects by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and it will only ever apply from a renewal — never mid-period. If you do not want the new price, cancel before it starts.
If you stop paying. We do not delete your decks. When a subscription ends, an account holding more decks than the free plan allows keeps every one of them and keeps them readable, playable and deletable — you simply cannot create another until you are back under the free limit. Cancelling is not a reason for anyone to lose the prompts they wrote. Decks you had already published stay published, so links other people shared keep working.
Who takes the money. Payments are processed by Stripe, through Clerk. We never receive or store your card number — see the Privacy Policy. Your payment is also subject to Stripe's terms.
If the service shuts down. If we discontinue Lengthywaves, or discontinue paid plans, we will stop taking new payments, tell subscribers, and refund the unused remainder of any period already paid for.
Chargebacks. Please write to us before disputing a charge with your bank. Nearly everything is a misunderstanding we can settle in an email, and we would rather do that than have your account suspended while a dispute runs.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Matthew Huang will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of your use of or inability to use the service, or out of content published by other users. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of one hundred United States dollars (US$100.00) and the total amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Some states do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is so, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the extent your state permits, and nothing here removes a right you cannot waive.
10. Indemnity
If somebody brings a claim against us because of a deck you published or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it.
11. Not affiliated with any board game
Lengthywaves is an independent work. It is not associated with, endorsed by, or licensed from the publisher of any physical party game, and no trademark of any such game is claimed or used here. All prompts bundled with the app are original.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we each consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here stops you bringing a matter in small claims court.
Before filing anything, please email contact@lengthywaves.com — nearly everything that has gone wrong with a free party game can be sorted out in a message.
13. Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and a material change will be announced in the app rather than made quietly. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
14. The rest
If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest still stands. Not enforcing something once does not waive it. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about the service.
